Rainy Days

What to do on rainy days?  Sand, sand, sand!

Hannah likes this part of the process - carefully labeling, sorting, and poking out pieces.  She also likes the sanding part.

I, on the other hand, am anxious for the actual build!  We are hoping to get to the dry fit soon, and are glad Chris is ahead of us to give us tips. I sanded for awhile but had to stop due to tendonitis in my elbow (really!).

In the meantime, we are getting some much needed rain that is helping to put out the wildfires as well as making my outside flowers happy. Inside, I harvested and ate my first cherry tomatoes of the year (my tomatoes plants are in the background of the photo below - they like it better in the atrium than outside because it gets too cool at night where we live).

Hannah sands as the rain pours down outside.

  1. Hi Abby,

I love it that Hannah loves to sand! I wish she were here to sand mine. :-D I like the sorting and organizing part, but sanding isn't my personal fav. Some clamps are in the mail and on the way to Hannah for when she builds her stairs. She's going to want them.

I bought some wood filler yesterday and plan to fill in some imperfections in the plywood.

It is so wonderful that you are getting some good rain. Is it helping knock the wildfires back?

    Your tomatoes look fantastic.

  2. Hi Abby and Hannah! The weather has been somewhat unpredictable all over the world and no doubt Alaska is no different. Your tomato re-location is a wise move I think and don't they taste great when you have grown your own? Hannah keep up the good prep work. It really makes all the difference in the world, especially with these types of kits where the wood is thin and inferior. Chris wood filler is a fabulous solution to achieving a smoother finish. Filling, Sanding and Priming will make a world of difference to your end project, and so as tedious as it seems to be, ( except to Hannah) keep at it cause you'll be happier that you did, once you are done!

    1. So true, Elizabeth! All of that prep work really pays off in the long run.
